Fusing scientific focus with engineering vision
What a Master of Engineering Management adds to a reactor physicist, and why decision-making is the thread.
Completing my Master of Engineering Management at Ontario Tech University fused scientific focus with engineering vision. It highlighted the need for leaders versed in both technical expertise and strategic management for today’s complex challenges.
The programme merged advanced nuclear engineering with management principles:
- Specialised nuclear topics. Nuclear regulations and waste management; shielding engineering and advanced microdosimetry.
- Essential management skills. Project management, production management, quality control, risk analysis, operations research.
Effective decision-making emerged as the critical thread, essential for addressing technical, safety, and business complexities in the nuclear industry and beyond.
As an assistant professor in reactor physics with a passion for teaching and research, I commend the university’s diverse assessment methods, its commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and student engagement, and its world-class faculty and support system.
Engineering the future requires investing in mastering the integration of scientific facts with applicable and reliable projects.
